Let me see, I haven't posted anything in a few days because nothing really has caught my attention except today when I was sitting in my Early Childhood Development class. Trying not to fall asleep. My teacher is quite boring.

The debate :: Should it be an requirement that children learn a second language?

My opinion is that you shouldn't force children to learn an second language. If they show interest in learning another language, then I say why not? It really doesn't hurt them to learn another language. It can help them when trying to get jobs. [ At least here in California, I am not 100% sure about other states but I would think so]

But just pushing and pushing a child into learning a new language would just make them more mad and irritated. Trust me, I have seen some parents who have tried pushing them into something that children don't really want to do and usually it would end in a big tantrum.

Just remember back when most parents try to get their children to learn piano at a very young age and the child totally hating it and would complain about it most of the time. [At least with the friends that I had.. they would absolutely hate it]

Pushing children into learning a new language doesn't mean that they will learn anything if they really do not want to learn the language.

And then there are people who think that people shouldn't learn an second language because the people who come here should learn English instead of us learning their language. Though, that debate is a big one. I think immigrants should learn English while keeping their own language.

And usually when we grow up, we regret not being able to learn a second language. Like me, I wish I learned a different language at a early age. Maybe I would be more fluent than I am now. [I took High School Level French and then College Level French. I learned a bit of German and then I know American Sign Language pretty fluently.]

That's my stance. It got pretty out of hand in class, with people screaming across the table. Yes, I said table. Not across the room. Parents should be aware of their child[s] needs before anything.
